So far I have categories for the suggestions box, tips and tricks, intros, editing questions, and a general discussion area.
Please let me know if you have suggestions for any other categories and I'll add them. Surely I haven't thought of everything ;-)

I'll work on a set of rules and let the community help edit it

How about a category for editors who have tried companies other than AJE and would like to share their experiences? I've also done a little editing work for Crimson/Enago, and I'd be happy to share details. Sadly, they make AJE look good . Another idea: how about a section where we can share suggestions about how to improve awareness of this forum? I finally stumbled across it (in a Glassdoor review of AJE) after a LOT of online searching for a forum like this.

Yes, a way to grow the community (while still protecting its members anonymity) is crucial. The disjointed network has made it hard for me to reach people. Glassdoor has been my best method so far to get the word out, but it requires both proactive and interested searchers to find it.
